Rebecca Dreyer (Karen Zoid) is almost forty, lives with her mother (Marie du Toit) and works in a café in a small Karoo town. To escape her depressing life, Rebecca dreams of getting as far away as possible from her smothering mother and pursue the stardom her mother never experienced – that of a successful singer.

Plot

Rebecca Dreyer is a simple woman from a small town in the Karoo. She dreams of leaving the small town and her overshadowing mother, to start a professional singing career. One afternoon she decides to go to Johannesburg to try her luck. Being a small-town girl, she struggles to find an agent; rejected, she returns to her mother. Her boss at a small shop tells her of a singing competition hosted by HUISGENOOT Magazine and convinces her to enter. Rebecca surprises everyone and finds an agent; unfortunately, he's a nasty man and gives her a hard time, and she must become someone she isn't to fit the ideal image of a singer. She is in a relationship with sheep farmer Dirk, a widower. Faced with choosing between Dirk and her singing career, can she stay true to herself and also achieve her dreams?
