Based on the favourite Afrikaans children's novel, Hanna is 14 going on 15 and is part of a rather unconventional family. They go on holiday to the Cederberg for a family reunion, which leads to plenty of surprises and reconciliation. Hanna is an intelligent and imaginative young girl who's earned herself the nickname "Hoekom," because she's forever questioning things. When her eccentric mother decides that the family – including her gay biological dad, actor stepfather, detestable half-brother and two stepbrothers – should spend their winter holiday in a remote house on a mountain, they end up stranded with nowhere to go and no-one to turn to except each other.

Plot

Meet Hanna, a teenage girl, and her unconventional family. Her mother is a painter; her father Gavin is a gay fashion designer; her stepfather Beyers is a seasoned actor and the father of Hanna's half-brother Tibo. Then there are 8-year-old Amos and 16-year-old Yann, compliments of Beyers and his ex-wife Margot. Hanna creates imaginary characters, a reflection of her alter ego and a family the total opposite of her own. Hanna's mother and stepfather take the family on their delayed honeymoon, which turns into a series of events, mishaps and family bonding. They end up stranded in a old country house with nowhere to go and no one else to turn to but one another.
