Hathyar is the story of a simple Thakur (Kulbhushan Kharbanda), who comes to Bombay with his wife (Asha Parekh) and son, Avinash (Sanjay Dutt) only to find the same lawlessness he thought he left behind.

Plot

Avinash and his family relocate to Bombay where his father commits suicide due to poverty. Avinash who decides to bear the responsibility of his family, is unable to find a job and becomes a criminal.
