Naive Ajay Anand (Rishi Kapoor) first few days in a hostel are marred by ragging and bullying at the hands of Vikram (Rakesh Roshan) and his friends. Eventually this leads to a fight, and then to a strong friendship between the two, and Ajay gets admitted to this group. Vikram's pastime is mainly playing practical jokes and tricks. One day they decide to play such a trick on Ghanshyamdas Johari (Jankidas), demanding a ransom of Rs.5000/- or else, and they use the name of "Black Cobra". They get the money, but Ghanshyamdas is killed the next day. The police are on their tracks, and so is the mysterious "Black Cobra", who is real, and not a figment of imagination. Plot

Ajay joins a college in Shimla where he gets in scuffle with Vikram later they both turn best of friends and he joins his gang falling in love with Nisha.The gang is known to play funny pranks by betting with each other.Ghanshyamdas Johari is a miser jeweler opposite the college.Vikram along with Ajay and Nisha decide to play a prank on him by sending a letter saying he needs to pay ransom of some amount or else he will be killed.Ghanshaymdas pay the ransom out of fear.But he gets murdered and the cops find letter near his body.Ajay and Nisha get worried while Vikram chills.But things get more worse when Vikram to gets killed in a road accident and a stranger starts to stalk Ajay and Nisha keeping a move on their every movement.
